Shark Cage

What to expect:
A typical day of shark diving starts at 0800 in Lunenburg at the wharf. The shark cage, and chum (bait), are already onboard for your convenience. We will help you load and store your dive gear. (Only one tank each please) The trip takes about one hour to travel the 15 to 20 miles off shore where we find our warm water. Very often whales, giant blue fin tuna, seals, dolphins, sea turtles and ocean sunfish are seen during the trip. Water temperature we look for is 64 deg Fahrenheit and up. The water depth is around 200 ft.

The chum slick will be started, and we will deploy the shark cage. Our cage measures 5x5x6h and floats in the top 10 ft. of water. We will drift for the rest of the day. The longer the drift the more sharks we normally see. Visibility ranges from 30 ft. to 100 ft. Sharks take anywhere from 15 min. to 4 hrs. to show up.

The cage will fit three divers at a time but two is best. When the sharks arrive we will use small pieces of bait very close to the cage to try and give you the best photo opportunity. The blue shark is the most common shark you will encounter but the occasional mako is always a surprise.

The blue sharks range from 4 to 13 feet weighing 40 to 350 pounds. We offer this trip from late June to the end of September. The cost is based on six divers $600- non diving group members are an additional $50- per person

Divers must provide their own diving gear. Scuba divers are required to show a basic open water dive certificate. Divers should be in good physical shape. All participants are required to sign a liability release before the boat leaves the dock.
